Your Weather this Week

Expect a wet start to the week in the West as a storm system rolls through bringing snow to the mountains and rain to the valleys. By midweek, that same system will bring rain across the central plains. By the end of the week the east coast will get the same treatment.

For those in the south, expect windy conditions and be aware that a fire watch is in effect.

In the Movies

1923 is finally back to continue the offshoots of the Yellowstone series. Season 2 episode 2 saw another dramatic scene depicting life in Montana in the winter during a blizzard. Just goes to show you, for as long as we’ve been around, we’ve wanted to brave the snow by car or by horse!

Several characters including Dutton mention a huge blizzard that’s going to be rolling in. It does and they get stuck! Is this historically accurate?

YES! Montana had a couple of Signal Stations / Weather Bureau Offices that would have been pushing this report out of an impending storm.

Interestingly enough. The station in Helena was one of the offices closed as part of the 1990’s Reinventing Government initiatives.

Financial Forecast

Let’s take a look at a Weather trade. Allstate Corporation(ALL) had some opportunities this past week. ALL, one the nation’s leading property insurers is directly tied to the weather. With the storms that were expected to be firing this could have caused the stock to sink at a greater percentage than the overall S&P 500. However, by weeks end it had increased almost 7% from its low.

How do you think ALLL will do Today?

Product Review

One of the coziest sweaters I’ve ever worn and you won’t believe where I got it. Now they are sold out on Walmart.com. This pullover is an absolute must have for this time of year, when those mild days turn cold at night. They are stylish and fashionable. Check them out at here on Poshmark.

Winds of Change

Many of you are watching the DOGE cuts closely. We are too. Here at the Weathered desk, we know we’ve been here before. We’ve weathered the storm many times and lived to tell about it.

In 1993, under then President Clinton, Al Gore initiated the National Partnership for Reinventing Government (NPR), which significant changed in the way the federal government operated, including the elimination of over 100 programs, the elimination of over 250,000 federal jobs, the consolidation of over 800 agencies, and the transfer of institutional knowledge to contractors (when these employees got rehired in the private sector). Most of these jobs were absorbed by the private sector as it would turn out.

It will remain to be seen how these job cuts impact the broader economy. 1993 the economy was strong and impacts were seemingly minimal. Unless of course you were one of those that got cut!

Change is in the air. When do you think this will blow over?

Barometric Beats

The pressure is low this week and for that, here’s some easy listening. For those who remember Buddy Holly. A good one to listen as the rain rolls in.

Weathered Wisdom
